Small Businesses

This past weekend, my husband and I traveled to exit zero otherwise  known as Cape May, New Jersey. Aside from getting some r&r and enjoying the enchanting Christmas displays of decorations and lights among the Victorian houses and small shops, there was another theme that kept reappearing.

First was when we went to Lucky Bones for dinner. My husband is a  hot sauce enthusiast. When he reached for the hot sauce at the table,  what he found was a local favorite, Hank Sauce. Based in Sea Isle City, NJ, and a product of a group of college friends, Hank Sauce is more than just a brand. It is a local business, supported by locals and has found success in its passion. Not to mention, its pretty darn tasty.

The next day, we ventured to Cape May Brewing Company. After a few beers and some laughs, I learned that the idea originated from deciding to open a microbrewery to provide South Jersey with local beer and helping put New Jersey on the map as a craft beer state. A steady stream of people came in and out of the brewery. Again, a testament of local support and a great product served with a smile.

As a small business owner, I admire these two establishments and their successes. It also reminded me of the importance of having passion to drive your success. What a small business can offer is the kind of personal attention that warms hearts and is nostalgic of times when you knew your business owners. Being that it is 2014, soon to be 2015, this type of small business does not have to reside down the street. There are thousands of small businesses that can be found online. Getting to know them now can be done as you lay on your couch or driving (as a passenger) in a car.

When I began Unity Alley Boutique Comforts, I was not sure what to expect as a business owner. But I am enjoying watching the company slowly grow like a budding flower. It is starting with support from friends and family (thank you for that by the way) and with the help of technology, I am glowing with excitement of people around the world noticing. It starts with a glance and I can’t wait to see where this goes.
Happy New Year! Cheers and Snuggle up!
